Patients often ask us which insurance is good. The answer is complicated, but we have provided these guidelines to help! There is not a huge difference between the actual insurance companies, but each company offers a variety of plans. Typically, we are in network with most PPO plans.
Things to look for in a good insurance plan:
- A high annual maximum ($1500 or above)
- No waiting periods
- No missing tooth clause (especially if you are looking to get implants)
- Low deductible ($50 at the most)
- A low replacement frequency for crowns, dentures and bridges (for some insurances you have to wait 10 years to replace a crown. Instead, look for a plan with a 5-year replacement period.)
- A PPO plan
- Plans that pay well to out of network providers
- Avoid: HMO, Delta Dental® PPO (instead, opt for Delta Dental® Premiere), and plans that have a copay for X-rays
